What exactly is the Opalustre treatment?

Opalustre is an enamel microabrasion system specifically formulated to target and remove heavy surface stains, brown spots, and superficial enamel defects. The treatment utilizes a specialized paste combining a low concentration of hydrochloric acid with silicon carbide microparticles. By gently massaging this paste over the discolored areas, we safely polish away the heavily stained microscopic top layer of enamel, revealing the clean, healthy tooth structure beneath.

Does the treatment involve drilling or cause damage to my teeth?

Absolutely not. Opalustre aligns perfectly with our clinic's "No-Drill" core philosophy. The microabrasion process is extremely superficial, removing less than 0.2mm of enamel. This is well within safe biological limits and does not compromise the structural integrity or health of your tooth. The procedure is gentle, virtually painless, and requires no local anesthesia.

Can Opalustre be used on existing fillings, crowns, or other restorations?

No, Opalustre is designed exclusively for natural teeth with healthy enamel. The microabrasion process is not effective on artificial dental materials such as composite resin fillings, porcelain crowns, or veneers. If you have staining on existing restorations, we will evaluate them during your consultation and can discuss alternative solutions, such as professional polishing or replacing the restorations to match your refreshed smile.

Can Opalustre be used alongside Icon Resin Infiltration?

Yes, they work exceptionally well together for complex cases. While Opalustre is highly effective at eliminating heavy surface stains and brown discoloration, some teeth also suffer from underlying white spots (decalcification). In these situations, we use Opalustre to clear away the heavy surface stains, and then apply Icon Resin Infiltration to penetrate and camouflage the remaining white spots from the inside out. This combined approach allows us to treat multi-colored lesions comprehensively without ever touching a drill.

Will Opalustre make my entire smile significantly whiter?

Opalustre is a targeted treatment meant to remove specific heavy stains and smooth the enamel surface; it does not change the overall base shade of your surrounding teeth. To achieve a bright, uniform, and radiant smile, we highly recommend combining Opalustre with a dual whitening approach.
