Emergency Dentist in Tokyo | Same-Day English-Speaking Dental Care

Last Updated on 2か月 ago by prebeau

A sudden toothache, swelling, a loose crown, or a broken dental appliance can be stressful — especially when you are living in or visiting another country.

At PreBeau Oral Care in Akasaka, central Tokyo, we provide same-day emergency dental care in English, subject to appointment availability.

You can speak directly with the dentist in English about your symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options, and expected costs. We welcome international residents, business travelers, and visitors to Tokyo.

Emergency dental care: from ¥33,000 (tax included)

Additional fees may apply depending on the care required, including prescription medication, X-rays, additional procedures, restorations, dental appliance treatment, or documentation for private or travel insurance.

Whenever possible, we explain the expected costs before proceeding with additional treatment.

Need an Emergency Dentist in Tokyo Today?

If you have an urgent dental problem, please contact us as early as possible.

Same-day appointments are available Monday through Friday when our schedule allows.

When contacting us, it is helpful to tell us:

  • your main symptom or dental problem
  • when the problem started
  • whether you have pain, swelling, or bleeding
  • whether a crown, filling, retainer, mouthpiece, or other dental appliance has broken or come loose
  • your preferred appointment time

If you are unsure whether your problem can be treated at our clinic, please contact us first.

We can advise you whether an appointment at PreBeau Oral Care is appropriate or whether your condition would be better managed at another dental or medical facility.

Dental Emergencies We Can Help With

Emergency dental care does not always mean performing extensive treatment immediately.

Our first priority is to understand what is causing the problem, relieve acute symptoms when possible, protect the affected tooth or tissues, and determine the safest next step.

Depending on your condition, we may be able to help with the following.

Sudden Toothache

A toothache can have many causes, including tooth decay, inflammation inside or around the tooth, problems with an existing restoration, or irritation of the surrounding tissues.

We examine the affected area and identify the likely cause before discussing treatment options.

Swelling, Dental Infection, or Inflammation

Swelling around a tooth or the gums should not be ignored.

We assess the affected area and determine whether local treatment, medication, further dental treatment, or referral is appropriate.

Loose or Dislodged Crown

If a crown has become loose or fallen out, please bring it with you if possible.

Depending on the condition of the crown and the underlying tooth, temporary or definitive management may be possible.

Broken or Chipped Tooth

The appropriate treatment depends on the extent of the damage and whether the inner part of the tooth or surrounding tissues are involved.

We evaluate the tooth first and aim to preserve healthy tooth structure whenever clinically appropriate.

Lost or Damaged Filling

A missing filling can leave the underlying tooth sensitive or vulnerable to further damage.

We can examine the tooth and discuss temporary or definitive treatment based on its condition.

Broken Retainer, Mouthpiece, or Dental Appliance

A damaged dental appliance can be particularly difficult when you are traveling or cannot easily return to the dentist who originally made it.

Please bring the appliance with you.

We will assess whether adjustment, temporary management, repair, replacement, or referral is appropriate.

What Happens During an Emergency Dental Visit?

The goal of an emergency appointment is not simply to “do something” as quickly as possible.

The first step is to determine what has happened and what needs to be done now.

Depending on your condition, your visit may include:

  1. A discussion of your symptoms and relevant medical and dental history
  2. Examination of the affected tooth or area
  3. X-rays when clinically necessary
  4. Explanation of the likely diagnosis
  5. Discussion of available treatment options
  6. Explanation of expected costs
  7. Appropriate emergency or temporary treatment
  8. Prescription medication when clinically indicated
  9. Follow-up care or referral when necessary

Our approach is to address the immediate problem while avoiding unnecessary treatment whenever possible.

How Much Does an Emergency Dentist in Tokyo Cost?

PreBeau Oral Care is a fully private dental clinic. Treatment at our clinic is not covered by Japanese National Health Insurance.

Emergency dental care

From ¥33,000 (tax included)

The final cost depends on your condition and the treatment required.

Additional charges may apply for:

  • prescription medication
  • X-rays or additional diagnostic examinations
  • additional dental procedures
  • temporary or definitive restorations
  • repair, adjustment, or fabrication of dental appliances
  • documentation for private or international travel insurance

Whenever possible, we will explain why additional treatment is recommended and the expected cost before proceeding.

For our general treatment fees, please see the PreBeau Oral Care treatment fee guide.

Private and Travel Insurance Documentation

Some international visitors have private medical insurance, overseas health insurance, or travel insurance that may reimburse emergency dental treatment.

PreBeau Oral Care does not directly bill Japanese National Health Insurance.

However, we can provide receipts and prepare documentation for private or international insurance claims when required.

Private insurance documentation: ¥5,500 (tax included)

Whether your treatment is reimbursed depends on your individual insurance policy. Please confirm eligibility and reimbursement requirements directly with your insurer.

An English-Speaking Dentist — Not Just Translation Support

Clear communication becomes especially important during a dental emergency.

You may need to explain exactly when the pain started, how it feels, previous dental treatment, medications you take, or what happened immediately before a crown or tooth broke.

At PreBeau Oral Care, you can discuss these details directly with the dentist in English.

Dr. Kuniyasu Mori completed his undergraduate education at the University of Washington and later received postgraduate dental training at the University of Michigan and UCLA in the United States.

Your symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options, limitations, and expected costs can therefore be discussed directly in English rather than relying solely on a translation application during an urgent dental visit.

If you are looking for ongoing dental care rather than emergency treatment alone, please see our English-speaking dentist in Tokyo page for information about our treatments, fees, preventive care, and services for international patients.

Emergency Dental Care for Tourists and International Residents

PreBeau Oral Care is located in Akasaka, Minato-ku, central Tokyo.

We welcome both international residents and visitors to Japan.

Emergency dental needs can be different when you are traveling. For example, you may:

  • be leaving Japan within a few days
  • need temporary treatment until you return home
  • need documentation for travel insurance
  • have previous dental work performed overseas
  • need to know whether treatment can safely wait
  • need referral for treatment outside the scope of our clinic

Please tell us about your travel schedule or other limitations.

This information can affect which treatment option is most appropriate and practical for you.

Our Approach: Treat What Is Necessary, Preserve What We Can

PreBeau Oral Care follows a minimally invasive approach to dentistry.

A dental emergency does not automatically mean that a tooth needs extensive drilling or immediate irreversible treatment.

When clinically appropriate, we aim to control the immediate problem, preserve healthy tooth structure, and explain the available options so you can make an informed decision.

If your condition requires treatment outside the scope of our clinic, we will recommend referral to an appropriate dental or medical provider rather than attempting treatment that should be managed elsewhere.

When a Dental Clinic Is Not Enough

Some conditions require hospital-level emergency care rather than a routine dental clinic.

Seek urgent medical attention if you experience symptoms such as:

  • difficulty breathing
  • difficulty swallowing
  • rapidly spreading facial or neck swelling
  • significant bleeding that cannot be controlled
  • major facial trauma
  • loss of consciousness
  • other serious systemic symptoms

For potentially life-threatening symptoms, seek emergency medical care rather than waiting for a dental appointment.
